The Kate Effect.

Since the most talked about marriage of our time, there has been one subject on our minds. The Duchesses wardrobe has been watched eagerly by the public in a bid to capture her effortless style. 



Kate's influence on the fashion industry has been bigger than we could have ever expected. With sales figures from Alexander McQueen souring by 27% last year alone, it is clear to see how one dress can change a company for a lifetime. The speculation surrounding who would be chosen to design the dress was obviously extensive, and for every reason, as this is the main culprit for the company’s soar in profits. McQueen, owned by luxury group PPR, has now considerably widened its lead over competitor Stella McCartney.

The “Kate Effect” has also had a massive benefit for the UK high street, with retailers such as Russell & Bromley, Topshop and Reiss seeing styles sell out over night once they have been photographed on the Duchess. In the official engagement announcement Kate was seen to be wearing a sapphire coloured Issa dress. When asked what a difference the “Kate Effect” had made to her business, Daniella Helayel, The Brazilian founder of the company, said “It wasn’t just the dress, - everything (sold out). It was amazing.”

The boom in sales is being felt in the U.S. too - the Reiss “Nannette” dress worn in engagement photos sold out within two days of going on sale to the public. “She has an elegance and timeless style about her that Americans admire.” said Laurie Marco, president of Reiss in North America.

Kate’s love of collaborating designer and high street labels to create an elegant but relaxed look is one of the main reasons modern women are trying to emulate her style; a more realistic, affordable way to celebrity chic is what the fashion forward have been seeking for years.
